Directions to Nisala Foundation -The Meditation Center in Sri Lanka
By Bus:
Travel to Kandy: You can reach Kandy, Sri Lanka, by taking the Intercity train from Fort railway station. This is the fastest option and takes approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes to 3 hours. You can book this train at the counter or by calling 365 from a Mobitel phone.
Bus from Pettah: Alternatively, you can take an Intercity bus from the Pettah main bus stand in Colombo. The bus journey usually takes 3 to 3.5 hours to get to Kandy.
Once in Kandy, head to Kandy Main bus stand, which is a short 3-5 minute walk from the Kandy railway station. This bus stand serves as the main bus hub in Kandy.
Taking the Udadumbara Bus: From the Goods Shed bus stand, board a bus heading to Udadumbara (Uda-dhum-bara). Buses to Udadumbara depart approximately every 20 minutes. Disembark at Udadumbara town, which is just a few hundred meters from the 45th km post along the Kandy-Mahiyangana road.
Arriving in Udadumbara: The bus journey from Kandy to Udadumbara town should take about one and a half hours. Please note that there are other buses departing from Goods Shed bus stand, such as Ampara and Mahiyangana buses. You can take these too, ensuring you get off at Udadumbara town.
Last Leg: From Udadumbara town, take a trishaw (tuk-tuk) to the meditation centre. Most drivers know it as the center in Liyangolla. The tuk-tuk ride will cost around Rs. 500 before 6 pm.
By Car:
From Kandy: Drive along the Kandy-Mahiyangana road to Udadumbara town, which is approximately 45 kilometers from Kandy.
Ceylon Tobacco Company Depot: A couple of hundred yards from the 47km post (or 2 1/2 kilometers from Udadumbara Town), you'll see the Ceylon Tobacco Company Depot on your right.
Concrete Road: About 100 meters from the depot, there is a concrete road going up to the Nisala Foundation Centre. A vehicle can access the center from this concrete road, which is less than 1 kilometer from the main road.
What to Bring:
It can get chilly at night, so consider bringing a sweater or pullover.
An umbrella is always a handy accessory.
